KEVIN ALLEN PIKE PHOTOGRAPHY

Statement

(continued from home page)

I stumbled across this sceries rather by accident as I walked up the hill on First Street in LosAngeles to notice the Disney Concert Hall bathed in a warm evening light. The image simplyneeded to be photographed, however all I had on hand was my cell phone. Naturally I had nochoice but to capture that image, hoping to preserve the moment as closely as possible.

Not only was my cell phone able to retain the color, light and form which initially caught my attention, but I fell in love with the quality of the image. I began taking dozens more and soon realized that there was much more to my cell phone than just bad reception.

By taking advantage of color, form and light, Kevin's images take on an abstract, contemporary style influenced by the diverse work from Rodin and Brancusi, to Georgia O’Keefe and Charles Demuth.

I love capturing the details in life which most people either never notice or simply overlook. There is so much beauty in the world which is so often ignored by most people.

Whether it’s the sensual form of a still life with squash to the light reflecting off palm trees or an incredible structure, there truly is beauty almost everywhere we look if only we are open to seeing it.
